I AM
The Significance of “I AM”
As I walk through this lifetime, I continue to unlearn the beliefs I was taught from an early age – I continue to hear falsehoods every day! I’ve come to understand the difference between perception and being. It has been a long while since I believed there was anyone or anything outside myself that is responsible for what I perceive. I am completely responsible for everything that comes to me in this lifetime, and how I react to those events. I can say this, because I AM.
Two of the most influential people in my life are Rupert Spira and Eckhart Tolle. They each have a clear way to bring understanding by asking questions that have helped me discover how to become aware of reality vs. perception. In this video from Rupert Spira he has a conversation about the meaning of ‘I am’. A man wants to know what Rupert means when he uses the phrase ‘using a thorn to remove a thorn’. And how does that relate to returning to true nature or abiding in being?
Rupert says: ‘The understanding that awareness is ever-present, inherently peaceful, unconditionally fulfilled and innately loving is formulated in response to the finite mind’s beliefs of impermanence, agitation, sorrow and separation. This is the thorn that uproots the old beliefs, and it is a legitimate thing to do – but it’s still not completely true. So once it has done its work this new understanding must also be abandoned.
‘Why? Because, ultimately, saying these things about awareness is the perspective of the finite mind – and nothing the limited mind knows is absolutely true. It’s always, at best, relatively true. The only thing that awareness can say about its own experience of itself, which must be the only true experience, is “I am”. And therefore, “I am” is the absolute truth.’

When you read my “Habits of Happiness” post, you will find that my affirmations are filled with relative truth, because the only truth is “I AM”. As I continue this journey through these dark times, I choose to hold my awareness to “being” rather than what my mind perceives. #keystolivehappy
