2006 Syrah Wins Awards
My passion is beginning to pay off! I decided to enter my 2006 Syrah in the State Fair and the Napa Town & Country Fair.
For a wine that I was originally going to dump, but worked to save – thanks to Michael Richmond’s tips, winemaker at Bouchaine Winery, the wine won decent awards.
In the California State Fair it won an honorable mention. I think out of 1011 entries that’s a wonderful first time entry. I’ll be entering the 2007 Merlot next year and we’ll see how that one compares! I can tell you that already (while still in the barrel) it’s far superior to the 2006 Syrah. If you’re interested in the entire competition results you can find them here: http://www.lodiamateurvintners.org/Competition/2009CalStateWineResults.pdf
The Napa Town & Country Fair results have not yet been published on line, but while attending the Fair last evening I discovered it won a Red Ribbon – (2nd place). Hooray!
We’re finally on our way to making great wines after 5 years of experimentation and finding my groove. I’m happy and excited that my low-quality fruit is doing so well. This year I’m buying some much higher quality fruit and expect to only get better!
